History is Important to Our Future...

Parkfalls Country Estate is a modern quality development that will provide residents with a lifestyle that is unique to the region.

The land that forms the heart of Parkfalls Country Estate was once a prime rural property established by one of the area's first settlers John Nichol Drummond, son of James and Sarah Drummond who arrived in 1829 with Western Australia's first government on the Parmelia.

Drummond took up the pastoral lease of 4000 acres just north of Smugglers Cove in 1849, and named it White Peak after the conical shaped hill that is a feature of the area.

By 1852, he had leased a further 3000 acres of pastoral. In the same year he rode to Perth to marry Mary Shaw, daughter of Captain William and Eliza Shaw who arrived in the Swan River settlement in 1830 on the Egyptian. This land includes the mouth of the Buller River where Drummond built a cottage and out buildings for his new bride, which he called ‘Red Cliff’.

In 1857, Drummond purchased 10 acres of land north of the conical shape hill (White Peak) and commenced construction of the White Peak Homestead.

Mary’s mother Eliza Shaw left her home, Belvoir on the Upper Swan to live at White Peak in 1876. After spending time at both White Peak and Ellendale (the home of Mary’s sister Ellen), Eliza Shaw died in 1877 at the age of 82 at White Peak where she is buried.

About this time the records show that Drummond sold White Peak to Charles Crowther but it would appear that the Drummonds stayed on at White Peak for some time after this.

Sometime after 1880, John Nicol and Mary retired to a cottage at Drummond’s Cove called ‘Seaview’.

As a tribute to the Drummonds, Stage One of the Parkfalls Country Estate has been called Seaview Gardens … unique lifestyle just beyond the city!
